It seems like every other week a list of Top 10 cities for (insert category here) is released. Top 10 cities to retire, top 10 cities for wellness, for vacation, to raise a family, and do NOT forget the endless lists for top 10 beaches.

Well this list.....comes with a bigger title, and from a bigger stage than some dude's beach blog.

Drumroll please....... Sarasota has now landed on Time Magazine's "“World’s Greatest Places”! Only 100 cities from around the globe landed on the list. Sarasota is one of only two Florida cities to make the list and one of about 20 U.S. cities with this new spotlight.

Time's editors said that to compile this list, they asked for nominations from their "international network of correspondents and contributors, with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences,” adding that it’s “a tribute to the people and businesses at the forefront of industries who, amidst extraordinary circumstances, found ways to adapt, to build, and to innovate. It shines a light on ingenuity, creativity, revitalization and re-openings in destinations across the world—from small towns to big cities, and everything in between.”

In addition to Sarasota and Orlando, other “World’s Greatest Places” include Tuscany, Italy; Cairo, Egypt; Faroe Islands, Denmark; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Las Vegas, Nevada; Savannah, Georgia; and New Orleans, Louisiana.

Here is what Brad Japhe wrote about Sarasota:

"Miami has long held the reins on all things young and hip in Florida. But there’s something special percolating along the once sleepy Gulf Coast these days. Celebrating its centennial this year, Sarasota is proving itself a vital cultural capital with the new Sarasota Art Museum of Ringling College, housed in the former Sarasota High School building, with exhibitions featuring the work of artists such as Robert Colescott, Charles McGill and Samo Davis."

If you are from the Sarasota area, and you disagree......maybe it is time to step back, venture out, and try and see what other people see in our hometown.

Congratulations, Sarasota!
