When a hit song turns 25 years old it is technically old enough to be a classic hit. When they are just barely old enough, we call them baby classics.
The week's BABY CLASSIC is:
10,000 Maniacs, "Because the Night" (1994)
This song was originally written for Patti Smith by Bruce Springsteen in 1978. Natalie Merchant and 10,000 Maniacs covered it for the taping of MTV's Unplugged. This live version reached the highest spot on Billboard Charts in the United States of all the versions and spent a total of 16 weeks on the chart.
Let's take you back to this week in 1994.........
You just got home from seeing "Reality Bites" at the movies. You flip on the television for the latest edition of MTV's Unplugged. Oh man! It's 10,000 Maniacs and Natalie Merchant is lookin' awesome. Slap on some dark lipstick and lace up your Dr. Marten's combat boots it's time to sing.
