Tampa, FL - The University of South Florida announced Brian Hartline as the program’s seventh head football coach on Monday, marking a major step as the Bulls continue rebuilding momentum.
Hartline traveled to Tampa over the weekend while balancing preparations for Ohio State’s College Football Playoff run, where he remains the offensive coordinator through the postseason.
During his introductory press conference, Hartline said he intends to strengthen the progress USF made in recent seasons.

He noted that the program’s foundation is already strong and said his focus will be on enhancing existing success.
Hartline also emphasized that his coaching approach will center on disciplined play, accountability and consistent effort.
USF CEO of Athletics Rob Higgins said Hartline stood out immediately as the top candidate to replace former head coach Alex Golesh, who accepted the coaching position at Auburn last week.
Higgins described Hartline as an experienced recruiter and developer of talent who has operated within a championship environment at Ohio State.
Hartline brings a strong track record from his time with the Buckeyes.
In 2025, Ohio State ranked among the top offenses in the country in scoring, total yards and passing production, with quarterback Julian Sayin and receiver Jeremiah Smith delivering high statistical outputs.
In 2024, the offense also ranked near the top nationally in scoring efficiency and passing metrics.
USF now turns its attention to the postseason.
The Bulls will face Old Dominion on December 17 in the Care Bowl in Orlando, with defensive line coach Kevin Patrick serving as interim head coach for the game.
A victory would give USF its third 10 win season in program history.
