Miami, FL - Florida officials are preparing to vote on the proposed site for the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library in downtown Miami.
The location, a 2.63-acre parcel currently used as a parking lot for Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, sits adjacent to the Freedom Tower, a landmark that served as a processing center for Cuban refugees from 1962 to 1974.
The Florida Cabinet, including Governor Ron DeSantis and Attorney General James Uthmeier, is scheduled to vote on the land transfer, which is expected to be approved unanimously.
The Freedom Tower, completed in 1925 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 2008, has played an important role in Florida history as a symbol of Cuban migration and resettlement.
Officials involved in the site selection noted the significance of the waterfront location near the tower.
Miami-Dade College operates the site and will transfer ownership if the Cabinet approves the plan.
The Trump Presidential Library will reportedly include an adjacent hotel, making it the first presidential library to combine museum and hotel development.
The Florida Legislature passed legislation this year to streamline approval for presidential library projects and limit oversight from local authorities.
This legislation is designed to ensure the library’s development proceeds efficiently without delays from municipal review.
Governor DeSantis highlighted Florida’s support for Trump-related initiatives, while Attorney General Uthmeier emphasized the historical importance of the Freedom Tower.
The proposed site is valued at over $66 million and is strategically located in a politically significant area of Miami.
If approved, the project will formally begin the process of constructing the Trump Presidential Library in a location intended to highlight both Trump’s legacy and the historical significance of the Freedom Tower.
