Tampa, FL - Tampa International Airport is introducing dedicated family lanes at security checkpoints to improve the travel experience for families and large groups.
The new lanes officially begin Tuesday and are part of the nationwide “Families on the Fly” program designed to make airport security faster and less stressful for travelers with children.
The family lanes are positioned between the standard TSA lane and TSA PreCheck.
Transportation Security Officers will guide passengers through the screening process, helping them remove personal items and move efficiently through security.
According to TSA official Daniel Velez, the lanes are designed to provide a calmer environment while maintaining standard security procedures.
Passengers using the family lanes benefit from a less rushed process that can reduce stress for those traveling with children or larger groups.
The program is free for eligible travelers and does not require prior registration.
Families have already responded positively to the program at other airports, reporting relief and ease compared to waiting in traditional TSA lines.
“Families were clearly relieved when directed into the specific lane designed for them,” Velez said.
The “Families on the Fly” initiative has already been implemented at airports across the United States.

Tampa International Airport officials anticipate that more airports will adopt the program in the coming months to further enhance the airport experience for travelers with children and large groups.
The new family lanes aim to balance security and efficiency, allowing families to navigate checkpoints more comfortably while helping maintain overall passenger flow at the airport.
