(Miami, FL) - Miami-Dade County Public Schools held their opening of schools address today as school is set to begin next Thursday, August 14th.
During his address at Miami Senior High school, MDCPS Superintendent Dr. Jose Dotres says this year is special for both him and the district.
"While I begin my fourth year as a superintendent, our school district begins its 140th year serving our beautiful community."
Dotres also highlighted the achievements of the third largest, A-rated district in the nation including a 95.2-percent graduation rate in 2024 (the highest ever) and an A-rating for the sixth year in a row.
"We are proud to be a choice district, giving families access to exceptional programs beyond their neighborhood school. From performing arts to cybersecurity, robotics to early college, our School Finder tool on dadeschools.net makes it easy to explore what is available."
Miami-Dade School board chair Mari Tere Rojas said the district has achieved unprecedented improvements thanks to students, teachers, principals and Dr. Dotres.
School beings in Broward County on Monday, August 11th. Most Florida counties are adhering to the August 11th state mandated start date, with a few choosing to start later in the week like Miami-Dade.
