A machine recount has confirmed the winner of a state Legislative race in Palm Beach County.
Former Wellington Mayor Anne Gerwig has officially defeated State Representative Katherine Waldron for her District 93 seat, flipping it from Democrat to Republican.
The recount was automatically triggered when the margin between both candidates was just .4 percent or 356 votes in favor of Gerwig. The recount that began on Friday morning and continued into the early Saturday morning hours confirmed that Gerwig won the race by the exact same number of votes.
Waldron posted on Facebook Saturday that Gerwig had "prevailed by under 400 votes of over 91,000 total votes" and thanked the constituents of District 93 for the opportunity to serve them for the last two years.
