The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office has lost a member of its mounted unit.
In a post on Facebook, the agency says a beloved 18-year old Holsteiner mare named "Vanessa" has succumbed to a medical condition.
PBSO says the horse fell ill during her assignment at St. Mary's Medical Center.
The Sheriff's Office had posted Vanessa on its social media accounts before as she and her handler made appearances at places like the Palm Beach County public library.
Today's post notes that "She was a cherished member" of our team and will be deeply missed.
