Business owners in downtown West Palm Beach are expressing their frustration with a construction project that is being extended.
The 300 block of Clematis Street was supposed to reopen last week, but the city says it will remain closed until November 3rd.
The work, which began on July 31st, is to build a rooftop pool for the popular Roxy's Pub, but Sylvia Gilbersleeve with the Market Wine and Spirits and says it's cutting into her bottom line.
"They gotta do what they gotta do but in turn I don't think that they put the other businesses in respect, you know what it's going to do to them."
John Ries owns Hot Pie Pizza. He tells CBS 12 News that the closure to build a rooftop pool for nearby Roxy's Pub is hurting his bottom line.
"But I would really like it if the owner of Roxy's came to us and at least had a merchant meeting at his place to explain his processes."
He also says there hasn't been enough communication from city officials.
"I would like them to at least reach out to the merchants and have some kind of better contact with us and have more meetings so we can be proactive in understanding this."
The West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority stresses that the sidewalks remain open for foot traffic and the Greenmarket will open for its new season this weekend as scheduled.
