Tampa Gun Buy-Back a "Success"

A gun buy-back program in Tampa is being called successful.

Within 4 hours of launching today's event, officers collected 1,000 guns at two locations. The buy-back was made possible through a $100 thousand donation from anonymous community members.

Anyone turning in a weapon was handed a $100 bill, no questions asked.

"I want to thank the donors who initiated this effort, and the community members who came out because they were looking for a safe way to dispose of their unwanted firearms", said Chief Mary O'Connor. "The level of interest clearly shows that there are still some people who want to safely get rid of the guns they no longer want, and we will start planning our next event in the very near future".

Details of the next gun buy back will be provided as soon as they are finalized.
