Armed Suspect Ignores Gainesville Officers Orders To Drop It

Gainesville, Fl.(Florida News Network)-While responding to reports of gunfire near downtown Gainesville, early Monday morning, police started canvassing downtown parking lots for victims or active shooters. While they were searching ,several more gunshots were fired coming from the rear parking lot of a downtown business.

As seen in the body cam video , the officer ran towards the gunfire, and as he got closer, witnessed a black male crouched down next to an electrical box holding a firearm. According to the police report, the officer challenged the suspect at gunpoint, ordering him to drop his weapon, “hands up, hands up, drop it right now.” .

Instead, the suspect disobeyed the officer’s commands and ran northbound, through an open field.

Several vehicles were hit by the gun fire and a bystander was grazed by a bullet. Approximately 25 shell casings were recovered from the parking lot of the downtown business's
