Nikki Fried, Democrats Go To 'Florida Cupboard' to Bare their Gripes

TALLAHASSEE -- The Florida Cabinet is set to meet Tuesday after a long pause due to the pandemic... but its only Democrat is trying to upstage the meeting with her own laundry list of issues.

Nicole 'Nikki' Fried, state Agriculture Commissioner and the only Democrat on the Florida Cabinet, has been complaining that the Cabinet's Republican members haven't addressed COVID, unemployment or looming budget shortfalls...and the clemency board hasn't met at all this year.

Fried called her own meeting of Democrats, nonprofit members and others the 'Florida Cupboard'. Monday's virtual event included fired Department of Health data scientist Rebekah Jones, who has claimed the state is underreporting COVID-19 statistics. She insisted the state is suppressing data on cases in schools, and says the state should be able to report the data because it' s supplying information to the 37 school districts that are reporting.

Also on hand, Miami State Senator Jose Javier Rodriguez, who said the state's mishandling of the unemployment system has left millions of dollars from the feds on the table.
