School Principal Has Coronavirus, School Asks For Plasma Donations

A Florida charter school leader has tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a video posted on Facebook.

"Our beloved Principal Reno Boffice was recently diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus."

Boffice is principal at the Palm Beach Maritime Academy in Lantana, where they're putting out a request for people who have had the virus to donate blood plasma.

The plasma of recovered coronavirus patients contains antibodies that can boost a sick patient’s immune system and may help them recover.

Donors must meet the following criteria:

1. Positive test result for COVID-19. You must have a copy of the test result and be able to bring a copy with you when you donate.

2. Be symptom-free for at least 14 days.

3. Local to the South Florida area.

A parent liaison in the video says Boffice couldn't have spread the illness to any students.

"Based on his diagnosis date, we are confident that he had no contact with anybody who attended the school prior to the school's recent closure."

The school asks that if you are able to make a plasma donation, to contact Dr. Leslie Diaz at 561-776-8300 as soon as possible.
