A Long Island elementary school music teacher, Mark Verity, was arrested after allegedly engaging in sexually explicit communications with a person he believed to be a 13-year-old girl. The arrest followed a sting operation by the vigilante group Predator Poachers Long Island, which used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to expose Verity's activities.

Verity, 37, who teaches at Wading River Elementary School, was charged with multiple offenses, including Attempted Dissemination of Indecent Material to a Minor and Attempted Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance, according to a press release from the Suffolk County Police Department. The group Predator Poachers Long Island confronted Verity outside his school after he allegedly sent lewd messages and photos to a decoy account operated by a 29-year-old group member using AI-driven appearance modification to look younger.

The group used AI tools to trace Verity's online activity and pinpoint his location. Mike Villani, a member of the group, stated, "When he confessed, he realized his life that he'd been living for the past 37 years was now going to be completely off."

Verity's arrest has raised concerns in the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District, although there is currently no evidence that any students were victims. The district is cooperating with the investigation, and Verity has been suspended from his teaching position.
