Random Solar Eclipse Facts:
- The next total eclipse in the U.S. won’t happen until March 30, 2033, and Alaska will be the location that will enjoy seeing most of the totality.
- Mexico will see the longest totality during the eclipse
- More people live in the path of totality compared to the last eclipse - An estimated 31.6 million people live in the path of totality for 2024’s solar eclipse, compared to 12 million during the last solar eclipse.
- The path of totality is much wider than in 2017, and this year’s eclipse is also passing over more cities and densely populated areas than last time.
- The sun's corona (typically hidden) will make an appearance! Due to the sun's brightness, the outermost atmosphere of the star is not normally visible to humans, but the eclipse will allow a glimpse today.
- 2 planets and comet could also be spotted. Venus and Jupiter may appear 5-10 minutes before.
- Look out for changes in animal behavior. During the last total solar event, scientist tracked that many flying creatures returned to the ground or other perches. Dogs, cats and other pets were reported to act differently too.
- People in the path of totality may experience a temperature drop of more than 10 degrees.
