Man Runs Half Marathon in 111 T-Shirts, Sets Guiness Record

An Idaho man broke a Guinness World Record by running a half marathon while wearing 111 T-shirts.

David Rush, who has broken more than 200 Guinness World Records to promote STEM education, said it took about 25 minutes for his support team to dress him in the 111 shirts before Saturday's YMCA Famous Idaho Potato Marathon at Lucky Peak State Park Sandy Point.

Rush completed the half marathon with a time of 2 hours, 47 minutes and 55 seconds, coming in under the 3-hour time limit set by Guinness World Records.

Rush's run broke the Guinness World Record for most T-shirts worn during a half marathon. The previous record of 82 shirts was set by British runner David Smith in November 2021.

The Idaho man said cool temperatures helped him during his attempt, but he still had to struggle with issues from the more than 40 pounds of added weight from the shirts.

"My arms lost circulation and after a couple of hours my hands swelled to what felt like twice the size, my normally loose wedding ring was a constricted ring, and I couldn't even touch my thumb across my hand," Rush said.
