Lubbock, TX -- A Texas couple about to board a flight to Las Vegas didn’t gamble on finding this stowaway in their luggage – their Chihuahua named Icky, who apparently wanted to join them for the trip to Sin City.

An overweight bag is what tipped them off to their puny pup’s misadventure.

“They put it on the scale and this bag is basically like five, five and a half pounds overweight,” Jared Owens told KCBD-11 about the shocking incident at the Southwest Airlines counter at Lubbock airport, where he and his wife Kristi were checking in.

“Really quickly we are like, ‘Oh, we have got to rearrange some stuff.’ Opens it up and literally, there’s our dog coming out of my boot — coming out of my boot with his head bopping up,” he said.

Owens said the couple’s dog has a penchant for burrowing.

“She’s the burrower, that’s what she does. She burrows in clothes, she burrows in, obviously suitcases now,” he said.

But despite having a bone to pick with itty-bitty Icky, the couple got lucky when a Southwest employee named Cathy Cook offered to take care of the pooch while they continued on with their flight to Vegas.

“They have got a heck of an employee in Cathy. She went above and beyond and never made us feel, you know, they could have turned us in saying we were trying to smuggle a dog to Vegas or something,” Jared told KCBD.

“Never acted like that, they were extremely gracious. Like I said, she was willing to watch our dog for us while we were gone,” he said, adding that he was happy they discovered Icky before boarding.

“Thank goodness we found this dog because you would have gotten to Vegas and you probably would have had a deceased animal in your bag,” he said.
