James Lipton, host of the Bravo television series“Inside the Actors Studio,”died on Monday at his home in Manhattan after battling bladder cancer. He was 93. Mr. Lipton was a knowledgeable interviewer who never bothered with gossip, but rather craft and the art form of acting, which in turn helped him earn the trust of the many famous guests he interviewed over the years.
During his 23-season run as host — “Inside the Actors Studio” became a welcome stop for writers, directors and performers, who would give some of their longest and most open and unreserved interviews to Mr. Lipton.
