Officer Buys Shoes For Man Barefoot On Hot Concrete

Chattanooga, Tennessee police officer, Chad Yates, responded to a call about a man in a parking lot. When he arrived, he found the guy standing barefoot on hot concrete. Yates says the man had some cardboard to stand on to keep his feet from being burned, but no shoes.

Officer Yates had met Marion previously, and since the concrete he was standing on was scalding hot, he asked for Marion’s shoe size and ran down to the Goodwill store to buy him a pair of shoes. He says Marion expressed his sincere gratitude and went on his way.

Several people witnessed the act of kindness and posted it online, but Yates says he wasn’t doing it for the praise. He explains, “To be able to make a difference for that guy, in his life, or just that day, it just felt good for me.”
