What's a "Baby Classic" you ask? It's a mega-hit that has just recently been birthed into "classic hits" status (a.k.a. 25+ years old!)

The week's BABY CLASSIC is:

Simply Red, "If You Don't Know Me By Now" (1989)

This song was originally written for Patti Labelle's group, Labelle, but they passed on it. Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes recorded it, released it and it peaked at #3 on the R&B chart in 1972. Simply Red's cover was a huge commercial success reaching #1 in 1989.

Other things from August 1989:

Pop Culture: "Eat My Shorts" - Bart Simpson, The Simpsons
"This is your brain. This is your brain on drugs. Any questions?"- Partnership for a Drug-Free America

Sports: Nolan Ryan struck out Rickey Henderson to reach 5,000 Ks.

Movies: "Uncle Buck" (John Candy, opened with $66M at the box office)
