Baby Classic: "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" Turns 25!

What's a "Baby Classic" you ask? It's a mega-hit that has just recently been birthed into "classic hits" status (a.k.a. 25+ years old!)

"When I wake up, well I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be the MOM who wakes up next you!"

The week's BABY CLASSIC is:

The Proclaimers, "I'm Gonna Be" (500 Miles) (1993)

This song may not have reached #1, but if you were alive in 1993, it reached your ears....A LOT. Best known for the lyric "I would walk 500 miles", this song peaked at #4 on the Billboard chart in August of 1993. The Scottish duo originally released this song in 1988. However, being featured on the "Benny and Joon" movie soundtrack is what shot "I'm Gonna Be" to the top of radio play in 1993.

Other things from August 1993:

Pop Culture: "Got Milk" Campaign launched and was one of the most successful advertising campaigns of all time. It ran from 1993 until it was retired in 2004.

Sports: Michael Jordan retired from the NBA (the first time)

Movies: "The Fugitive" (Harrison Ford) opened with $44M at the box office
