Metallica's James Hetfield Accepts Movie Role Opposite Zac Efron

Metallica frontman James Hetfield has accepted a part in an upcoming thriller about serial killer, Ted Bundy.

The film, called Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, And Vile, stars former High School Musical star Zac Efron as the notorious serial killer.

Hetfield will play Police Officer Bob Hayward, who arrested Bundy in 1975 following a traffic stop in which he found burglary tools in Bundy's possession.

Hetfield has played himself in numerous films and TV shows, but this will be his first dramatic role as another character.'

The film will be directed by Oscar-nominee Joe Berlinger, who produced the Metallica: Some Kind of Monster documentary. Berlinger also wrote a book about his time around the band called Metallica: This Monster Lives.

“Having spent hundreds of hours behind the scenes with James and the rest of Metallica, I have experienced his charisma and powerful presence close up,” Berlinger said through a statement. “It seemed only natural that he would bring that same power and magnetism to a dramatic role, so when he agreed to my pitch that he be in the movie, I was thrilled.”

Extremely Wicked also features rock and roll heiress Lily Collins (daughter of Phil Collins), as well as John Malkovich, Jim Parsons, Haley Joel Osment and many others.

Bundy confessed the 30 murders in seven states between 1974 and 1978. He was first arrested in 1975 in Utah and became a suspect in a rash of unsolved crimes. Bundy escaped from jail twice while facing murder charges and committed more murders while he was on the lamb.

He was recaptured for good in 1978.

Authorities suspect Bundy assaulted, raped and murdered many more victims than the 30 for which he was convicted. He decapitated at least 12 of his victims and kept some of the severed heads as mementos.

Bundy was executed in Florida in 1989 via the electric chair.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile is currently in production, expected to be released sometime in 2019.
