Thanks to a perfectly placed art installation, a train driver in the Netherlands was able to escape after a crash. A metro train rammed through a barrier at the end of the tracks at the De Akkers metro station near the city of Rotterdam. But instead of plunging 32-feet into the water below, it was left suspended in the air.
And what kept it up? A large sculpture of a whale’s tail beneath it. Luckily, the train was empty and the unnamed driver was able to get out by himself and he didn’t get injured in the crash. Even more impressive? The large art piece didn’t break from the weight of the train. Now officials at the metro station are trying to decide how to best bring it down carefully.
