Last Day for this Mailman turned in to a Block Party

For the last 35 years, Floyd Martin has been delivering the mail on his Marietta, Georgia route. The U.S. Postal Service employee has gotten to know the families he delivers for, watching kids grow up and residents get older. The people on his route have gotten to know and love Floyd over the years, so for his last day on the job, they planned something special.

The mailman who always has a bone for the dogs he encounters and a lollipop for the kiddos, was greeted by neighbors on his suburban Atlanta route who had hugs and gifts for him. They decorated their mailboxes and snapped photos with Floyd as his mail truck made its rounds. It turned into a street party with more than 300 people, with folks bringing covered dishes to share as they said goodbye.

But this community had another present for Floyd. After he mentioned that he wanted to go to Hawaii when he retired, the neighbors created a to raise money for his trip. In Three days, they blew past the $5,000 goal and got more than $32,000 in donations. So Floyd is going to Hawaii!
