A 10-foot-long great white shark was logged off the coast of Sarasota on Monday.

Penny is a juvenile clocking in at 522 pounds and she is part of a tracking program called Ocearch. Ocearch tags and charts the movement of over 92 sharks and Penny, has logged a whopping 4,922 in under one year!

I didn't know sharks traveled around that much! I assumed they had a home base, or a general area that they hunt and live in.

Penny was first tagged in North Carolina, back in April 2023. She made her way up the eastern coast of the United States, eventually pinging in the Gulf of St. Lawrence in CANADA! She has now made it all the way down and around the state of Florida with her most recent ping off the coast of Sarasota. PHEW! What a trip.

You can see her, and all of the tagged sharks' tracking data from Ocearch. SO COOL!
